Testosterone Deliveries Require Adult Signature
Beginning 1/1/09, the DEA and the Pharmacy Board will require an adult signature on all deliveries of controlled substances. Proof of age (21 or greater) is required. The most commonly prescribed controlled substance in our practice is testosterone. (NOTE: HGH and HCG are not controlled substances. For the complete list of controlled substances click here.) FedEx charges $3.75 for Adult Signature Required service. This fee is mandatory and will be passed on to patients.
If you regularly receive testosterone and you typically have someone sign for the package, the recipient will be required to provide a driver's license, passport or some other form of government-issued ID containing a photo and date of birth. This information will be documented by the FedEx driver. If the recipient has no ID, the package cannot be left.
If you regularly receive testosterone and you have authorized FedEx to leave packages without a signature, you will need to make arrangements for an adult signature for at least some of your shipments. To simplify matters, the pharmacy can batch your testosterone shipments by sending a 3-month supply every three months. Whereas you will still need an adult signature to receive these packages, the frequency will be reduced substantially. Please call our office at 877-888-3210 or MedQuest Pharmacy at 877-749-7462 to request batched testosterone shipments.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Use your FSA to Save up to 40%
If your employer offers a Flexible Spending Account, you can potentially save up to 40% on your medications and lab fees not covered by insurance. An FSA is one of a number of tax-saving financial accounts that can be set up through a cafeteria plan of an employer. An FSA allows an employee to set aside a portion of his or her earnings to pay for qualified expenses not covered by health insurance. Money deducted from an employee's pay into an FSA is not subject to payroll taxes, resulting in a substantial payroll tax savings.
Qualified medical expenses are those specified in the plan that would generally qualify for the medical and dental expenses deduction. (PDF, 1.04MB) However, even though non-prescription medicines (other than insulin) do not qualify for the medical and dental expenses deduction, they do qualify as expenses for FSA purposes, provided they are used to treat symptoms of injury and illness.
Here are some examples of qualified expenses:
- Prescription medications such as HGH, testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, HCG
- Lab tests not covered by insurance
- Certain non-prescription medications used to treat a disease or condition, such as DHEA and thyroid medication
- The cost of shipping medications
Here are some typical expenses that are not considered qualified:
- Professional Fees such as the Program Maintenance Fee
- Vitamins such as AM/PM Packs
- Melatonin
- DIM
- Prostate Formula
To take full advantage of the savings offered by your FSA, be sure to allocate contributions to cover all of your expected unreimbursed PhysioAge expenses in 2009. Deadlines for contribution elections usually fall in December, so check with your employer for more details. And be sure to save the receipts that come with each shipment - you'll need those for reimbursement.
